Buying a boat in Thailand.

Thailand is home to some of the world’s leading international yacht brokers, making purchasing a boat in the Land of Smiles an attractive proposition for owners who want to spend extended periods in the country’s famous cruising grounds.

Thailand yacht dealers at a glance

The majority of Thailand’s yacht brokers are found on the southern island of Phuket, whilst in recent years, more and more brokers are also setting up shop in Pattaya, on the Gulf of Thailand. Compared to other South East Asian countries, it is not uncommon for international yacht manufacturers to have extensive dealership networks, such as Azimut Yachts, Beneteau, Lagoon Catamarans, Ferretti Yachts, Princess Yachts and Sanlorenzo.

International Brands

Thailand has long welcomed some of the leading name in the yachting industry.

Renowned Dealers

Boat owners are spoilt for choice in the Land of Smiles, with a wide range of high-quality brokers and dealers.

Award-Winning Marinas

Thailand has seven international standard marinas, offering safe anchorage for yachts of all sizes.

In the past 20 years, the Thai Government has made sporadic – yet effective – steps to make buying a boat within its borders a much more appealing proposition. Since the abolition of the somewhat complicated luxury import tax systems back in 2004, the only additional financial burden yacht owners will need to pay is a standard 7% VAT on top of the price of the vessel.

Foreign nationals can own 100% of their yacht and can also register it in Thailand in their own name. However, please be aware that owners will first need to be to provide evidence that they have a valid address in Thailand. In addition, Thai-flagged vessels may also be offered for charter in the Kingdom, making this is cost-effective and attractive solution for boat owners who are not always on the water.

PHUKET

Ao Po Grand Marina

Opened in 2008, Ao Po Grand Marina has since grown by more than 100 berths from its original 200 and can also accommodate superyachts of over 100 metres. Looking towards the stunning Phang-Nga Bay, the marina’s expansive breakwater protects vessels from adverse weather and rough seas.

KRABI

Krabi Boat Lagoon

Krabi Boat Lagoon is the newest marina complex in Thailand and is the only one to be found in the picturesque region of Krabi. Nestled safely amidst a protective mangrove forest, Krabi Boat Lagoon boasts a restaurant, yacht service suppliers and can serve 80 yachts plus another 100 on the ground.

Marinas At A Glance

Unsurprisingly, Phuket has the lion’s share of Thailand’s marinas, boasting four top-grade facilities and luxurious waterfront environments on all sides of the island. Across the Andaman Sea in nearby Krabi, is the newly opened Krabi Boat Lagoon and, heading north is Racer Marina, the only marina situated along the west coast of the Gulf of Thailand. 150km east of Bangkok is Ocean Marina Yacht Club, the region’s yachting epicentre and also the largest international-standard marina in all of South East Asia.
